Caixa Geral de Depositos

Customer: The Caixa Geral de Depositos (CGD) group provides comprehensive financial services through more than 1000 branches (270 outside Portugal), accounting for a 25% share of the Portuguese market.

Business Needs: As CGD was merging with BNU Bank, they urgently needed to consolidate systems and applications and rationalize their infrastructure in order to centrally modernize and improve banking services, as well as reduce human resource and infrastructure costs.

IT Needs: The merger required migrating a total of 1,200 data structures (DB2, sequential, and VSAM files) into a DB2 and VSAM environment. The project consisted of migrating the data environments based on a set of business consolidation and mapping rules that was provided by the customer.

Solution: The BluePhoenix IT Discovery solution was used to map both source and target systems, providing a layout of the business rules used on both ends. Then, the BluePhoenix automated data migration solution was used to edit the source files (DB2, SAM, and VSAM) to match the target structures and their business rules (DB2 and VSAM). Over 1,200 structures and files were migrated to the target applications.

Partner: The partner for this project was Capgemini Portugal who contributed the project management expertise, working as the integrator in this multi-skilled project that involved process management, people management, and technology.
