Ford Motor Company

Customer: Incorporated in 1903, Ford Motor Company is the world's second largest automaker, with approximately 335,000 employees in 200 markets on 6 continents.

Business Needs: Every Ford Dealership within the United States has an assigned dealer code. The dealer code included a designation for the region in which the dealership is situated plus a unique code representing the individual dealership. This configuration caused serious maintenance issues since there was a constant need to change dealers and it became difficult to track down the history of those dealers whose code had been modified.

IT Needs: Ford decided to consolidate various regions as part of an organizational restructuring effort. Due to these changes, dealers had to change regions within a very strict time frame. Also, since some programs had a direct correlation to specific dealers, they would need to be changed once those specific dealer codes were changed. Ford realized that it was impossible to carry out these changes according to established maintenance procedures, as this effort would simply be too time consuming. Therefore, it was decided to modify Ford’s data model, i.e. create dealer codes without a designation for the region.

Solution: Following a thorough IT assessment using BluePhoenix IT Discovery, the automated data field adjustment technology, BluePhoenix FieldEnabler created a tailor-made solution that perfectly answered Ford’s specific requirements. The sort issue was a major concern for Ford, and BluePhoenix developed a suitable solution that the customer also implemented in other systems. All programs and jobs were successfully converted, tested, and then moved to production. The project was completed ahead of time and the customer was extremely satisfied both with the project execution and the final results.
