DB2 Optimization

Over the 20-year product evolution (originally introduced in 1983), DB2 for z/OS has been a trailblazer for providing reliability, availability, and serviceability. However, as capacity increased and many new applications were added which relied on the organizational DB2, the quality of service (QOS) became a challenge. As applications evolve and many DBAs and developers work on the applications, the database is not always completely aligned for best performance - DB2 optimization is required.

There are three main areas where the database and the application should be optimized:

  • Database server settings.
  • Data model optimization. Table structure, table dependencies, and indexes best fit for optimized performance.
  • SQL statement optimization. There are many ways to write an SQL statement that will achieve the same results. There is however, a difference in the performance of these statements. When the volume of data is small there is no significant difference, but as the data center capacity grows, this can turn into a significant problem.

In order to assist you with this delicate task, BluePhoenix provides a comprehensive service to analyze all three areas based on expertise and automated tools. From past experience we have aided our customers to improve their database performance significantly.
